Mental illness and its impact on young people

Jayden and I were inseparable throughout elementary school—we were best friends in every sense of the word. We spent almost every day together, whether it was playing outside, laughing over inside jokes, or just enjoying each other’s company. He had the kindest heart and the most genuine spirit, always looking out for others and making sure everyone around him felt included and cared for. No matter what we were doing, he had a way of making everything more fun and meaningful. He was truly one of the sweetest people I’ve ever known, and his friendship meant the world to me.

My son died at age 21. He had mental problems. He lived in a home in NY where we lived at the time, for young adults with similar problems but would soon age out. I know that these young people need a great deal of help and there is little available. I recently learned that Dr. Gillespie had a similar experience with his son and he established this foundation. I should like to learn of volunteer opportunities.
No, I do not play golf, but I do draw portraits and will gladly donate a percentage of the portraits to the foundation.

I just came across a news reel online about your foundation and because I have a daughter who has struggled a great deal with severe depression (including 2 suicide attempts & hospitalization at SMV), I'd LOVE to get involved. I can't begin to say how thankful I am she has good health coverage although even then, long term treatment is exorbitant. The first thing I thought of is the people who need help but don't have adequate - or any - insurance. The thought that lack of insurance prevents people from getting the help they desperately need is disheartening. There are still many holes in the treatment system as well so there's a lot of room for improvement. I would love to chat with someone about how I can contribute. Thank you!

Jayden was my best friend growing up in elementary and middle school. We fell out of contact through high school and I learned of the loss of him just recently. I’m am so deeply saddened

My love for Jayden and the Gillespie family led me here. JTGF’s mission and commitment to supporting our youth will keep me here. As an educator for over 25 years, I see how the disparities in access to treatment and support impact my students and families. I’m grateful for the efforts to increase awareness and am inspired to lend my support.
